Deborah is a designer in costume, fashion and art.
Launching from a background of Graphic Design studied at Perth Tech, Deborah found an easy transition into the world of fashion, utilising her interest in design, photography and illustration.
There she carved out a successful career in the fashion industry, best known for being the co-creator of cult label ‘Eldorado’, opening a shop in King St, Perth and more recently as creative director for her own label ‘Velvet Sushi, Luxury Loungewear’, based in the historic city of Fremantle.
“All the world’s a stage so let us play and create whatever we shall upon this wondrous globe and set forth to inspire and be inspired by whatever illumination is your gift.’
Her costume career first came into the light with the success of Chrissie Parrott’s ‘Coppelia’ for the West Australian Ballet Co., for which she was nominated Best Costume Designer in the inaugural Helpmann Awards and was presented on ABC’s ‘Masterpiece’. Deborah has continued to collaborate with Chrissie on many productions including ‘Tower’.
Other costume commissions include Festival of Perth, PIAF, Stalker Theatre Marrugeku Theatre for ‘Mimi Spirit’, Olympic Arts Festival of Dreaming in Sydney, Yirra Yaakin Noongar Theatre, Link Dance Co., Bizircus and many other local independent companies.
As an artist she received high distinctions in her studies at Edith Cowan University and continues to develop her artwork through portraiture and figurative painting.
Deborah is continually delighted with fusing her knowledge and skills together to create works of exceptional quality, inventiveness and a ‘joie de vivre’.
